{"id":10394,"date":"2020-10-17T04:48:51","date_gmt":"2020-10-17T11:48:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/?p=10394"},"modified":"2020-10-17T06:47:47","modified_gmt":"2020-10-17T13:47:47","slug":"the-star-powder-dispenser","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/index.php\/2020\/10\/17\/the-star-powder-dispenser\/","title":{"rendered":"The Star Powder Dispenser"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m going at the Star resurrection slowly, methodically, and piecemeal.\u00a0 I suppose I could completely disassemble the thing, clean, degrease, and polish all the bits and pieces, and then reassemble it all.\u00a0 But I&#8217;m a little bit scared I might not remember how it all goes back together, and I don&#8217;t want to spread everything out and make my workbench unusable during this resurrection.\u00a0 Nope, slow and easy is the path forward for me. margin: 0px !important;\" src=\"\/\/ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/e\/ir?t=exhaustnotes-20&amp;l=ur2&amp;o=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" \/> macro lens do\u00a0 a wonderful job for this kind of photography.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-10400\" src=\"http:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/20201011_0005-600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/20201011_0005-600.jpg 600w, https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/20201011_0005-600-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Incidentally, speaking of the last time this device was used&#8230;several of our readers suggested that the number etched onto the Star reloader&#8217;s base was a social security number.\u00a0 Before identity theft became the problem it is today, it was common for folks to etch their social security number on things to prevent theft.\u00a0 One of our blog readers located the man whose social security number was located on this Star reloader.\u00a0 That owner was born in 1926 and died in 2009.\u00a0 \u00a0To my surprise, there&#8217;s a social security death index where you can find this information.\u00a0 Who knew?<\/p>\n<p>Back to the job at hand: The powder dispensing mechanism is secured to the tool head with two slotted screws.\u00a0 I had applied a bit of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Kano-Kroil-Penetrating-liquid-KROIL\/dp\/B000F09CF4\/?&amp;_encoding=UTF8&amp;tag=exhaustnotes-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;linkId=0e611ef658907ab7a909472e4d5450d1&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kroil<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;\" src=\"\/\/ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/e\/ir?t=exhaustnotes-20&amp;l=ur2&amp;o=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" \/> to these screws a day earlier and they unscrewed easily.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Kano-Kroil-Penetrating-liquid-KROIL\/dp\/B000F09CF4\/?&amp;_encoding=UTF8&amp;tag=exhaustnotes-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;linkId=0e611ef658907ab7a909472e4d5450d1&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kroil<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none !important; on the upper tine, and the &#8220;2.7 GR&#8221; on the lower tine.\u00a0 That means this powder slide is designed to throw 2.7 grains of Bullseye powder, and that&#8217;s a good thing.\u00a0 That powder and that charge, along with a 148-grain lead wadcutter bullet, is the accuracy load in .38 Special.\u00a0 I got lucky; this is exactly what I wanted to see.\u00a0 Note the two rollers between the tines.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll explain what they do a little further along in this blog.\u00a0 And yeah, I know, this is another funky piece.\u00a0 But wait;
