These are awesome firearms. They used to be plentiful and inexpensive. Inertia drives the bullet out.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I thought maybe the bullets were slightly oversize and that was causing an overpressure condition.\u00a0 But they weren&#8217;t.\u00a0 They miked in at 0.312 inches (right where they were supposed to be).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16900\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16900\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16900 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/DSC0181-600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/DSC0181-600.jpg 600w, https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/DSC0181-600-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-16900\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bullet diameter: Check!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I dumped the powder from the cartridge case and it weighed 52.7 grains.\u00a0 I had no idea what the powder was, but the powders I had loaded 7.62x54R ammo with in the past (primarily IMR 4320) had always been at 43.0 to 43.7 grains.\u00a0 My reloads were hard-hitting and accurate, and they felt about right to me.\u00a0 They recoiled and had a muzzle blast roughly comparable to a .308 Winchester, which is about what the 7.62x54R Russian cartridge is ballistically equivalent to.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t see any powders in my reloading manual that went north of 50.0 grains.\u00a0 Nope, this PRVI ammo was just way too hot.\u00a0 Stupid hot.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16898\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16898\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16898 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/DSC0172-600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/DSC0172-600.jpg 600w, https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/DSC0172-600-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-16898\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The PRVI-Partizan propellant was a stick powder, but I had no idea what it was.
