{"id":17260,"date":"2022-05-18T02:27:23","date_gmt":"2022-05-18T09:27:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/?p=17260"},"modified":"2022-05-18T02:27:23","modified_gmt":"2022-05-18T09:27:23","slug":"exnotes-review-operation-mincemeat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/index.php\/2022\/05\/18\/exnotes-review-operation-mincemeat\/","title":{"rendered":"ExNotes Review:  Operation Mincemeat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Susie and I were channel surfing on Netflix the other night and a trailer for <em>Operation Mincemeat<\/em> appeared.\u00a0 It looked like it might be interesting so we hit the play icon.\u00a0 Wow, this movie is great.\u00a0 The story is about the British military intelligence deception operation to convince the Nazis the 1943 Allied invasion of Europe would begin in Greece and not Sicily.\u00a0 Everyone knew Sicily was the logical choice, including the Germans, but the Brits managed to pull off a miracle and the Germans diverted the bulk of their forces to Greece.\u00a0 I won&#8217;t tell you much more about how MI5 did this (beyond what the trailer below shows) because I don&#8217;t want to spoil the movie for you.<\/p>\n<p><em>Operation Mincemeat<\/em> is a dark, foreboding movie, as it should be.\u00a0 \u00a0Literally tens of thousands of lives and indeed, the future of humanity, hung in the balance.<\/p>\n<p>One of the interesting characters in this true <em>Operation Mincemeat<\/em> story is a mid-level British Intel officer named Ian Fleming.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_17362\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17362\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-17362 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Bondwatch-600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Bondwatch-600.jpg 600w, https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Bondwatch-600-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-17362\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Johnny Flynn playing Ian Fleming in Operation Mincemeat.\u00a0 Here Fleming is intrigued by a Q Branch watch with a bezel that becomes a buzz saw.
