When it comes to smog, Bangkok is what California used to be.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The evening before was fun.\u00a0 We arrived at the hotel late at night, and because we had opted to stay on the executive floor, the hotel staff rolled out the red carpet for us.\u00a0 When we went to the check in counter and told the staff our names, they whisked us up to the top floor, brought us into the executive lounge, poured us each a glass of wine, put several kinds of appetizers in front of us, and seated on us on a comfortable sofa.\u00a0 Two young Thais basically interviewed Sue and me, they disappeared for a moment, and then they reappeared with our room keys.\u00a0 It was a pretty cool experience, and it was unlike any hotel check-in we&#8217;ve ever had.<\/p>\n<p>That morning we walked around a bit taking in one of the world&#8217;s busiest streets in one of the world&#8217;s most exotic cities.\u00a0 The number of motorcycles on every street had our attention immediately.\u00a0 Something we had not seen before anywhere else in the world were the motorcycle and motorscooter taxis.\u00a0 People used motorcycles and scooters for taxi duty, as you will see in a few of the photos below.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_23818\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23818\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-23818 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/171007_4889-800-6501.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"650\" srcset=\"https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/171007_4889-800-6501.jpg 650w, https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/171007_4889-800-6501-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/171007_4889-800-6501-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-23818\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A Thai motorcycle taxi rider waiting for a fare. Thai food was surprisingly good.
