{"id":2789,"date":"2019-02-17T06:47:25","date_gmt":"2019-02-17T14:47:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/?p=2789"},"modified":"2019-02-17T07:03:55","modified_gmt":"2019-02-17T15:03:55","slug":"barrons-recommendations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/index.php\/2019\/02\/17\/barrons-recommendations\/","title":{"rendered":"Barron&#8217;s recommendations&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2791\" src=\"http:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Harleys.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Harleys.jpg 600w, https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Harleys-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/>I guess more financial mags are zeroing in on Harley-Davidson&#8217;s plans to introduce an electric motorcycle.\u00a0 You saw our post a week or so ago about <em>The Motley Fool<\/em> and their thoughts on the Livewire.\u00a0 <em>Barron&#8217;s<\/em>, another financial newspaper\/advisory service, similarly reported on Harley&#8217;s woes but with a twist. \u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.barrons.com\/articles\/harley-davidson-should-build-pickup-trucks-not-electric-motorcycles-51549535400\">This most recent <em>Barron&#8217;s<\/em> article<\/a> strongly recommended that either Harley move into manufacturing pickup trucks, or allow itself to be acquired by Ford.\u00a0 Yeah, that&#8217;s right.\u00a0 Ford.\u00a0 The car company.<\/p>\n<p>Ford has already produced F-150 pickups with Harley trim packages (seriously, I can&#8217;t make up stuff this good) and they are reintroducing a $100K Harley-themed truck for 2019&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NH-IeXIM4ow\" width=\"716\" height=\"403\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>Barron&#8217;s<\/em> reasons that Harley&#8217;s brand recognition could help Ford (a company who&#8217;s stock price has been tanking for years). \u00a0 The <em>Barron&#8217;s<\/em> article actually recommends Harley as a buy (the stock, not the motorcycle), with a target price of $50 per share if such an acquisition occur (i.e., Ford buying Harley).\u00a0 Seeing as Harley stock (symbol HOG) is currently about $35 per share, <em>Barron&#8217;s<\/em> reasons that could be a wise investment if Ford acquires Harley (which I don&#8217;t think will ever happen).<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m watching all of this in stunned silence.\u00a0 Well, nearly stunned silence, except for the tapping of my laptop&#8217;s keyboard as I whip out this blog. \u00a0 $35,000 electric motorcycles. \u00a0 Harley-badged $100,000+ Ford pickup trucks, which presumably will sell to folks whose judgement, common sense, and sobriety has to be questioned.\u00a0 Financial advisors recommending buying Harley stock because if Ford (a company with terrible stock performance) buys Harley (another company with terrible stock performance), the Harley stock price will go up (while Harley&#8217;s business has been tanking in a dive so steep they may not be able to pull out of it).\u00a0 Got it.\u00a0 Right.<\/p>\n<p>My take on all of this?
