{"id":4864,"date":"2019-06-18T03:26:59","date_gmt":"2019-06-18T10:26:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/?p=4864"},"modified":"2019-06-18T03:26:59","modified_gmt":"2019-06-18T10:26:59","slug":"german-military-and-police-motors-part-ii","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/index.php\/2019\/06\/18\/german-military-and-police-motors-part-ii\/","title":{"rendered":"German Military and Police Motors:  Part II"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Get an ExhaustNotes sticker by signing up for our automatic email blog updates!<\/p>\n\n<hr \/>\n<p>Our last blog on <a href=\"http:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/index.php\/2019\/06\/13\/german-military-and-police-motors-part-i\/\">German Military and Police Motors: Part I<\/a> ended with a photo 0f good buddy Ben&#8217;s his personal bike, and I thought a good way to start Part II would be with another photo from Ben&#8230;one showing a vintage Swedish police BMW&#8230;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4909\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4909\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4909 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/SwedishSkis.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"491\" srcset=\"https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/SwedishSkis.jpg 600w, https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/SwedishSkis-300x246.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4909\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nothing slowed these guys down&#8230;check out this Swedish ski-equipped BMW!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>When I wrote the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Complete-Book-Police-Military-Motorcycles\/dp\/1581601409\/\"><em>Complete Book of Police and Military Motorcycles<\/em><\/a>, I guess the word got out and I received a number of police motorcycle photos.\u00a0 As you might imagine, many of these photos were of police BMWs, as BMW has been a dominant force in the police motorcycle world for decades. \u00a0 BMW has offered several engine configurations over the years, and nearly all are represented in their police motorcycles.<\/p>\n<p>BMW&#8217;s early K-bikes used 3 or 4 cylinder engines (the photo below shows a 4-cylinder model) that were oriented in an unusual manner. The crankshaft was parallel to the frame, and the engine was oriented with the pistons moving in a horizontal plane (the engine laid on its side). The cylinder was on the bike&#8217;s left side. motorcyclists. Although the bikes may have a few miles on them, they have usually been meticulously maintained, and they in excellent condition.
