Yep, we rode down there on 150cc bikes!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I have several places I like to stay in Baja, and one of those is the Las Casitas Hotel in Mulege. \u00a0\u00a0 (Mulege is pronounced Mool-a-hay, with the accent on the &#8220;hay&#8221; syllable; it&#8217;s not mule-lidge as I sometimes hear gringos say.)\u00a0 I could give you directions and an address for Las Casitas, but it&#8217;s really not necessary.\u00a0 Mulege is a small town along Baja&#8217;s Transpeninsular Highway and the Las Casitas Hotel is easy to find.\u00a0 Just take a left into town under the arch as you&#8217;re traveling south on the Transpeninsular (the main, and in many cases only, road through Baja), head into town, and sort of bear right when you come to a fork entering this interesting little village.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5961\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5961\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5961 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/160317_5473-650.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"418\" srcset=\"https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/160317_5473-650.jpg 650w, https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/160317_5473-650-300x193.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5961\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Looking into Mulege from Baja&#8217;s Transpeninsular Highway.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>My good buddy Javier is the hotelier at Las Casitas.\u00a0 He&#8217;s a guy about my age, we became friends as soon as we met, and he&#8217;s just a plain old good guy.\u00a0 You know what I&#8217;m talking about.\u00a0 Sometimes you meet somebody and you like them immediately, and for me, Javier is a guy like that.\u00a0 That photo you see above with the <em>Heroica Mulege<\/em> arch? \u00a0 It was erected to commemorate the actions of a small band of <em>Bajaenos<\/em> who held off a large group of invading seaborne soldiers. \u00a0 I was telling that story at dinner in the Las Casitas one night and I couldn&#8217;t remember who the invaders were.\u00a0 &#8220;It was you, the Americans,&#8221; Javier reminded me, and we all had a good laugh.<\/p>\n<p>Las Casitas has a bar and a restaurant, and if you&#8217;re traveling with a group, Javier has no problem setting up a world class meal to keep the gang happy. \u00a0 I&#8217;ve had seafood dinners, chile rellenos (my favorite Mexican dish), and more. \u00a0 Javier does a great breakfast, too, and the coffee is superb.\u00a0 The real treat, though, is the fresh-squeezed orange juice.\u00a0 It&#8217;s worth riding the 700 miles south just that alone.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5963\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5963\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5963 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/180313_7711-650.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" srcset=\"https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/180313_7711-650.jpg 650w, https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/180313_7711-650-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5963\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A dinner in the Las Casitas on one of the CSC Motorcycles rides.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5964\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5964\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5964 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/180313_7715-650.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"371\" srcset=\"https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/180313_7715-650.jpg 650w, https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/180313_7715-650-300x171.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5964\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chile rellenos, as prepped by Javier and his crew. Wow, were they ever great!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Las Casitas has a tropical feel to it, and that&#8217;s not surprising as Mulege is damn near in the tropics (the Tropic of Cancer, the northern edge of what officially constitutes the tropics, is just a few miles further down the down from Mulege).\u00a0 The hotel rooms are arranged in two rows with an enclosed courtyard, and Javier&#8217;s okay with parking the bikes in the courtyard at night just outside the courtroom.\u00a0 It&#8217;s really not necessary as there&#8217;s little crime in Baja (and on more than one occasion, infused with sufficient amounts of 100% blue agave Tequila and the inevitable accompany bottles of Negra Modelo, I&#8217;ve left my motorcycle parked on the street with no problems).\u00a0 But it&#8217;s a nice touch to be able to bring the bikes into the courtyard.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5962\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5962\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5962 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/180314_7647-650-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" srcset=\"https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/180314_7647-650-1.jpg 650w, https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/180314_7647-650-1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5962\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">In the Las Casitas courtyard with the bikes.
