{"id":6442,"date":"2019-11-04T06:24:29","date_gmt":"2019-11-04T14:24:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/?p=6442"},"modified":"2019-11-04T06:24:29","modified_gmt":"2019-11-04T14:24:29","slug":"lunch-with-marty-and-the-boys","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/index.php\/2019\/11\/04\/lunch-with-marty-and-the-boys\/","title":{"rendered":"Lunch with Marty and the boys"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_6443\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6443\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6443\" src=\"http:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/IMG_71601-Marty600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"519\" srcset=\"https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/IMG_71601-Marty600.jpg 600w, https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/IMG_71601-Marty600-300x260.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6443\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Marty and his 145,000-mile BMW K1200RS.\u00a0 That&#8217;s my RX3 in the background.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been riding with good buddy Marty since the early 2000s (it&#8217;s been close to 20 years now), and we&#8217;ve covered miles all over the US, Mexico, and Canada.\u00a0 Marty has owned the BMW K1200RS you see in the above photo since it was new.\u00a0 He owns and has owned a bunch of exotic bikes (Ducatis, Aprilias, Triumphs, other BMWs, and more), but he prefers the K1200RS and he told me he&#8217;s keeping it forever.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve got a bunch of good friends I ride and socialize with, and I know all of them through Marty. \u00a0 We all get together for coffee at the Brown&#8217;s BMW dealership on Saturday morning.\u00a0 That&#8217;s followed by lunch, and maybe we&#8217;ll talk about the next big ride.\u00a0 We frequently talk about rides we&#8217;ve done in the past.\u00a0 Sometimes the conversation turns to politics, and we all have strong opinions.\u00a0 Some of the guys are right (the ones who agree with me), and some of them are wrong (the ones who don&#8217;t), but it doesn&#8217;t matter. \u00a0 Every once in a while I inject the thought that the problem in America is that the guys who really know how to run the country are screwing around drinking coffee at Brown&#8217;s and riding their motorcycles.\u00a0 It usually gets a laugh, even though the guys have heard that line about 800 times.<\/p>\n<p>I like the get-togethers at Brown&#8217;s, although sometimes I&#8217;ll go months without getting over there. \u00a0 I don&#8217;t know why, because I always enjoy it when I go.\u00a0 And I like riding my RX3 to our Saturday morning meetings.\u00a0 It&#8217;s an excuse to get out on my favorite motorcycle (not that anyone needs an excuse to go for a motorcycle ride).\u00a0 Sometimes folks ask about my motorcycle; more than a few motorcycle riders have never seen an RX3.\u00a0 Some folks think it&#8217;s a BMW, even though BMW has their own competitor in the small adventure touring motorcycle category (that&#8217;s the BMW G 310 GS and <a href=\"http:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/index.php\/2018\/11\/21\/the-bmw-g-310-gs\/\">you can read our road test of it here<\/a>).\u00a0 Whatever.\u00a0 My RX3 is slathered with decals denoting some of the big rides I&#8217;ve done, and I guess that gets it some credibility in a crowd known for high mileage.<\/p>\n<p>While I&#8217;m at the Brown BMW dealership, I like to check out the vintage and new motorcycles.\u00a0 The old bikes are beautiful, and some of the new ones are, too&#8230;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6445\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6445\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6445 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/IMG_71251-600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"397\" srcset=\"https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/IMG_71251-600.jpg 600w, https:\/\/exhaustnotes.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/IMG_71251-600-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6445\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A mid-&#8217;60s 600cc BMW. It&#8217;s stunning. It&#8217;s a hell of a deal, but there&#8217;s no package deal for a chiropractor, and I&#8217;d need one if I rode this bike. I can dream, though. The photo doesn&#8217;t do the bikes justice. Side-by-side, the difference in size is shocking. The GS is outrageously huge.
