Sometimes a motorcycle is so beautiful, so perfect, it just stops you in your tracks. The red Janus Gryffin in these photos does that for me.
Our good buddies at Janus Motorcycles make stunning motorcycles. I rode their olive green Gryffin across northern Baja and it was a perfect machine, one I thought could not be topped. Then I saw this red Gryffin that my good friend Richard posted on Facebook. Folks, this is how a motorcycle is supposed to look. This machine is more than a motorcycle. It evokes emotion. It’s art.
The motorcycle you see here is Gryffin No. 69 and it is magnificent. Janus GM Richard tells us that “No special detail was left untouched…from the red painted side panels, red wheel pinstripes, and black handlebars, this Gryffin just hits different.” Indeed it does.

She’s a looker alright. Not sure 250cc would haul my biscuits & gravy around up here in the Rockies though. Another 1,000 feet up and pilots are required to be on O2.
Thanks for commenting, Larry.
Touring on a 250 takes a different mindset. I’ve found a 250 to be a much better choice when touring in less developed areas. Your mileage may vary.
Looks like you could possibly get enough Yoo-Hoo in that one bag for a week-end trip.
When we rode in Baja, I used a Nelson Rigg tailpack to carry clothes, a laptop, my camera, and more. No room left over for YooHoo, though.
Too bad Janus doesn’t export to Canada. I would buy one in a moment!
The green one looks even cooler. And you can use Rotella in green ones.
I really liked that green one I rode in Baja. You would like them, too, as a guy who appreciates small bikes. I couldn’t believe the interest in these wherever we stopped. One dude in Mexico (an older guy) looked at the front suspension and said, “ah, good…like Ossa!” If a motorcycle starts a conversation with a complete stranger in another country, it’s got to be good. That red one really lit me up, too. When you see these bikes in person, the craftsmanship is really something.
I see so many comments saying “I’d buy a Janus if they built a different motorcycle than the one they are building. One like everyone else builds.”
There are zillions of 400-500-600cc bikes to chose from.
Everyone who has ever thrown a leg over a motorcycle fancies themselves an engineer and a marketing expert. Most are Facebook goofballs on anti-China rants. Somebody should do an article on motoracism.
Man, if that ain’t the truth, I don’t know what is. Perhaps you could write up an article on said nutcases. I’d give it a read.
Joe Gresh already did so. You can read it here:
